Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
a safe, effective path toward peace of mind & emotional resilience.
What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?
“Keep the Knowledge, Lose the Pain.”
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a unique and evidence-based approach to psychotherapy. ART works directly to reprogram the way distressing memories and traumatic images are stored in the brain, so they no longer trigger intense emotional reactions or physical sensations.
ART combines the power of bilateral eye movement therapy to facilitate voluntary changes in the mind. It gently allows the brain to “erase and replace” traumatic images often associated with intense emotions and bodily sensations, with new images, feelings, and a sense of safety.
Bilateral eye movement stimulation has been shown to increase theta brain waves and help regulate autonomic nervous system functioning. Theta waves are present during REM sleep and meditative states, and have been associated with creativity, intuition, and daydreaming.
ART sessions are calming, regulating to your nervous system, and often joyful, especially at the end, for both the client and the therapist.
ART was developed in 2008 by Laney Rosenzweig, MS, LMFT, who combined multiple therapeutic modalities including EMDR, Gestalt therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Guided Imagery. She quickly appreciated the value of eye movements, and also recognized the need to modify how they are used and integrated with other techniques. She developed specific scripts and protocols for therapists to guide clients safely through sessions, helping them resolve distressing memories while promoting emotional and somatic regulation.

What to Expect in an ART Session
-
Your journey begins with a one-on-one consultation. I will take the time to understand your unique challenges and ensure that ART is the right fit for your nervous system needs and healing goals.
-
Together, we will gently pinpoint memories or situations causing discomfort. Unlike many other trauma therapies, ART does not require you to relive or share every detail of your trauma—making it a safe, supportive, and comfortable approach to healing.
-
While you focus on a memory or sensation, I will guide you through smooth, side-to-side eye movements. This helps the brain naturally reprocess experiences, similar to what happens during restorative REM sleep.
-
You’ll be invited to picture the memory in a calm, supportive environment. This process isn’t about reliving trauma—it’s about acknowledging it in a way that promotes healing and emotional freedom.
-
A hallmark of ART is Voluntary Image Replacement. With gentle guidance, you’ll learn to replace painful images with positive, healing ones, easing the emotional and physical impact of past experiences.
-
Finally, you’ll begin to carry these new perspectives into everyday life, supporting ongoing nervous system regulation, emotional resilience, and self-compassion. Many clients notice relief right away, with benefits that continue to deepen in the days and weeks that follow.
